Giving Max A Brush

Max was thrilled to have Evan come after him with a brush. He was a patient guy and let him do a little brushing. Evan catches on pretty quickly how to do things.

We finally turned the heat on!

We finally broke down and turned the heat on this weekend. We had been in denial that it was getting cold in the mornings. On Saturday, it rained almost the entire day, which was odd for this time of the year. With the big drop in temperature, the rain turned to snow up on top of the mountain, which makes for a gorgeous site.

Here is a video of Evan and his best friend Max...Evan has learned that the dogs will love him even more if he a treat for them. If we give Evan a cracker to feed himself, he would much rather give to the dog sitting closest to him. Even Sadie is starting to warm up to him especially when there is food around. Both dogs are very gentle to Evan when he is feeding them a treat (although most of Evan's hand goes in Max's mouth).

Boxed In!

Since Evan is the big explorer around the house, he sometimes finds himself boxed in by the dogs. In this video, Evan was exploring the laundry room. Max, being the "herder" that he is, kept him corralled and made sure to give him lots of licks.

Evan is 13 months old today!

8/2/07: Been Bad About Blogging...

Things have been crazy-busy so apologies to all of you who are missing your Evan-fix. I need to take some video of Evan's latest "tricks"...still no crawling yet, but he likes to pull himself up to a standing position. So, who knows, maybe he will skip the whole crawling-thing? With his increased mobility, we also have an increase in boo-boos with him falling over and bumping his head or his eye...the boy needs a helmet!

The monsoons have been steady this summer and we've had some real big downpours daily. We forgot that when the monsoons arrive, so does the seasonal "Sadie-pee" on the living room carpet. For some reason, when it rains, she will not go outside and relieve herself...instead she chooses to do so in relatively the same spot on the carpet. T was not happy to discover (aka step in ) it on Monday. Since then, Sadie has been banished to the backyard all day. The thing that stinks about it is that Max is stuck inside the house since we have to close up the dog door. He's pretty good about holding it all day until we get home.

Evan is still doing well at daycare. He is pretty much still the smallest kid there (even smaller than the infants on the other side of the room). So he is truly turning into a little-man. His food palette has expanded to peas and green beans, so he'll eat almost anything. I gave him a Cheerio this morning (I snagged it off of one of the other kids). He wasn't sure what to do with it, but he let it sit in his mouth and dissolve (thank goodness no choking hazard there). Today they were doing some sort of artwork with Jello (to get them used to different textures). Tomorrow is finger painting (with edible paint of course).

A Rare Photo-Op

I snapped a very rare photo today...Max and Sadie both on the couch together. This couch is usually Sadie's domain since Max isn't too keen in getting up and down on the couch anymore. This was his favorite couch when he was a bit more spry.

10/23/06: Day 101 (Mon.) "Maxstoplicking"

Don't get us wrong, we love our dogs...but Max our German Shepherd can be very annoying when he licks his feet all the time. He's always had this allergy problem since he was a puppy when we lived in Germany. My big worry at this point is that Evan is going to think his name is "maxstoplicking" since we seem to say it all the time! It takes saying it at least three times before Max will give you this look and a groan as if to say "I wasn't doing anything".

10/6/06: Day 84 (Fri.) 3 Months Old!*

Today was bath day for Evan since he was going to visit his favorite doctor today, Dr. Vedock. I managed to give him a bath by myself since T went back to work today. I'll still be home until November 1.

We don't have to go back to the doctor's office for 2 weeks. We're sad that Dr. Vedock is moving away! I have to take him to the hospital on Monday to get labs drawn again.

I was uploading the video I posted on yesterday's blog when Max, our German Shepherd, comes into the room panting. It was the tell-tale sound of a thunderstorm approaching. I had to get a vid of him under the computer desk. This big 80-pound dog is frightened of thunder and when a storm is near, he tries to get under the desk (usually when we are sitting at the desk).

Max's Birthday!

March 15th was our baby's 9th birthday! Max is our German Shepherd we bought in '97 while stationed in Germany. It's hard to believe he's 9 now. Dad (Takeshi) gave him a special treat for dinner, a bratwurst (Max's favorite). Little sister (crazy) Sadie also got part of a bratwurst so she didn't feel left out. Happy birthday to Max-pup!
